£100,000 KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN CEMENTS THE RETURN OF RICHARD HERRING’S AS IT OCCURS TO ME

Richard Herring’s seminal internet comedy sketch and stand-up podcast As It Occurs To Me (AIOTM) will move into film for the first time when it returns to the internet later this year. Fans pledged a phenomenal £107,403 for the creation of a series of six brand-new 30 minute television-quality episodes, far exceeding the original £100,000 Kickstarter campaign target. The series will be available to watch for free online when it is released later this year and will reunite original cast members RICHARD HERRING, DAN TETSELL, EMMA KENNEDY and CHRISTIAN REILLY. Tickets to the live records at Leicester Square Theatre are available to buy now.

Richard said, getting the backing and reaching the target might be the highlight of my career thus far. Now I have to create something that justifies the faith that people have put in me and repays them on their investment. It opens all kinds of doors for me, but also anyone who is happy to veer away from traditional routes to getting stuff made. I wonder how many TV shows would get funded if the viewers had to dig into their pockets on a show by show basis.”

As It Occurs To Me is a revolutionary stand-up and sketch show podcast written and performed by RICHARD HERRING at London’s Leicester Square Theatre and Bloomsbury Theatre between 2009 and 2011. All material for each show is brand new and written on the week of broadcast, based on things that have occurred to RICHARD, either events from his life or things he’s been thinking about. The podcast was first made available through the British Comedy Guide and ran for three series, including three specials, regularly topping the iTunes charts and winning the first Chortle Internet Award as well as being nominated for the prestigious Sony Award.

The new, filmed series of As It Occurs to Me will showcase some exciting independent film makers, animators and crew who will bring RICHARD’s sketches and short films to life, but the slapdash and improvised quality of the studio sections of the show will remain. In keeping with RICHARD’s reputation as a pioneer of self-funded comedy available to watch without restriction, this is a bold attempt to create a TV quality comedy series on a tiny budget, without the restrictions that television, schedulers and executives would impose.

Richard is currently on a UK tour with his 12th solo stand-up show in 12 years, Happy Now?. which includes a DVD record at Cardiff’s St David’s Hall on Tuesday 12th April. He is also the male lead in While You Were Away, a short film written by Sundance nominated screenwriter Gabriel Miller and directed by BAFTA nominated director Ben Mallaby. The story of a normal husband and wife having a far from normal argument, While You Were Away  premieres in Paris at the European International Film Festival on Friday 8th April, is released online on Monday 11th April and will screen as part of the Short Film Corner at Cannes 2016.
