McGhie

About

A highly regarded young stand-up and comic performer, Jimmy performs on the UK and international comedy circuit to great acclaim. He is also a highly sought after TV warm-up, working for Channel 4's Deal or No Deal, ITV's Loose Women, BBC Three's Two Pints and Coming of Age and Channel 5's The Justin Lee Collins Show. Jimmy has supported Chris Addison and Simon Bird on tour, co-presented the Dave Gorman radio show on Absolute Radio and provided voice-over and character work for ITV Mobile cartoons. Recently Jimmy performed stand-up on BBC Three's Russell Howard's Good News.

Jimmy's career was kick started in 2005 after reaching the finals of the prestigious 'BBC New Talent' competition and performed in the Amused Moose Hot Starlets Showcase at the Edinburgh Festival. He then began working full time as a stand-up comedian performing in theatres, clubs, arts centres and universities all over the country and abroad.

He took his first solo show, 'Jimmy McGhie’s Northern Meeting', to the Edinburgh Festival in 2009 receiving rave reviews and returned in 2010 with new solo show 'Jimmy McGhie - The All-Powerful Warrior Who With His Endurance And Inflexible Will To Win Goes From Conquest To Conquest Leaving Fire In His Wake'. In 2011 Jimmy returned to the festival with new show 'Jimmy McGhie - Artificial Intelligence'.

Jimmy will return to the Edinburgh Festival this summer and is currently working on his new show.

Press for All-Powerful Warrior... 2010

“Last year I said he had "one to watch" stamped on his forehead; well, this year he has "see him now before you have to queue around the O2" stamped on his forehead. There are few comics I can think of who have the sheer star quality of Jimmy McGhie. He is the perfect little comedy package."
The Scotsman

"The likeable Londoner has come up with a very strong second solo Fringe show. It's a performance that demonstrates he meets all the requirements needed to become a TV star"
British Comedy Guide

"Jimmy McGhie scorches a bit of a blaze here, eclipsing the promise of his 2009 debut. From a series of seemingly unrelated anecdotes, observations and outright prejudices, McGhie has pulled together a show with real soul and panache."

Press for Northern Meeting 2009

"Hilarious, self deprecating and lovable… A fantastic storyteller."
Three Weeks

“One to watch’ practically stamped on his forehead”
The Scotsman

“A perfectly constructed hour, which at times feels as if it had all the structure of a symphony. As fringe debuts go, this is very strong indeed”
The Stage

“A delightful turn of phrase…instantly likeable stand-up.”
Chortle

“Charming, bright-eyed and relaxed, he melds rhythm and timing with a polished and honest delivery. A pleasure to watch.”
