James has written extensively for live comedy shows and for BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz, and is currently working on TV projects. He started his career writing for the Cambridge Footlights – in 2011 he wrote and directed the Footlights International Tourshow (“Genius” – Whatsonstage), taking in prestigious venues such as the West End’s Lyric Theatre and Second City, Chicago.
At the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe he also wrote and starred in Armageddapocalypse: The Explosioning (Four stars, “See this show” – Chortle), and in 2012 wrote and starred in its sequel (Five stars – Big Issue, “An impossibly good show” – The List). In 2010 he wrote and starred in the first Footlights Tourshow to tour the USA in four decades (“Inspired” – The Daily Telegraph). In 2009 he wrote and directed an award-winning comedic adaptation of The Wind in the Willows at the Edinburgh Fringe (“standout” – The Observer).
2014 saw James debut his new play St. George is Cross in London.
