EDINBURGH COMEDY NOMINEES KRISTEN SCHAAL AND KURT BRAUNOHLER TO DEVELOP SPOOF CHAT SHOW SPEAK EASY FOR BBC THREE

It was announced today (09 August 2012) that this Edinburgh Festival Fringe will see New York based Edinburgh Comedy Award nominees KRISTEN SCHAAL (Flight of the Conchords, 30 Rock, The Daily Show) and KURT BRAUNOHLER (Morgan Spurlock’s New Britannia, Bunk) develop brand new spoof chat show, Speak Easy with Kristen and Kurt, with Avalon Television in Scotland. They will host two free performances of their new work-in-progress TV chat show for BBC Three. In these two special one-off live shows they will be in conversation with the alter egos of some of the most exciting new character comedians currently in Edinburgh, while Fringe favourites THE HORNE SECTION, will take up the role of house band.

KRISTEN is the Senior Women's Issues Correspondent for The Daily Show (Comedy Central), plays Hazel Whassername in 30 Rock (NBC), Mel in Flight of the Conchords (HBO and BBC Four) and her voice can be heard in Pixar’s Toy Story 3.

Last year saw KRISTEN and KURT bring their award-winning variety show Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen (named Time Out New York’s Best Variety Show) to Edinburgh Festival. They are winners of the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s prestigious Barry Award and the duo’s live credits also include the HBO Vegas Comedy Festival, the Chicago Improv Festival as well a one-off Channel 4 special Penelope: Princess of Pets.

KRISTEN has previously been named Best Alternative Comic at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival and won a New York Nightlife Award for Best Female Stand-Up and was also the recipient of the second annual Andy Kaufman Award hosted by the New York Comedy Festival.

KURT has performed at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and in Chicago, the HBO Vegas Comedy Festival, the Chicago Improv Festival, South by Southwest and Bonnaroo. He won Best Male and Best Host at the 2011 ECNY awards and Best Non-scripted Host at the New York Television Festival. KURT currently has season one of his new show Bunk, a game show parody made out of New York, on IFC.
